Common Questions
  • Question: Will a lightning protection system attract lightning to my home?
  • Answer: A lightning protection system neither attract or repels a lightning strike. The system simply intercepts and guides the large currents harmlessly to the ground.

  • Question: Why do I need multiple lightning rods?
  • Answer: Each Lightning rods provides a "zone of protection", the number of rods used is determined by using the codes set forth by Underwriters Laboratory (UL 96A) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA 780)

  • Question: Is it safe to run the lightning conductors inside the walls of a home, in contact with wood framing?
  • Answer: Yes! A lightning protection system provides a path of very low resistance for the lightning to follow. Due to this low resistance, there is no heat generated to cause structural damage or fire.

  • Question: Will the homeowner's insurance company give me a discount for having lightning protection?
  • Answer: Some will and some will not. It is best to check with your insurance company. If the answer is yes, we can provide a letter for the insurance company stating that a lightning protection has been installed.

  • Question: Does a lightning protection system need maintenance?
  • Answer: Because the lightning protection system uses non-corrosive materials, such as copper, bronze, and stainless steel, it requires little maintenance. Homeowners should call Zeus if anything happens to the lightning protection system (e.g. tree falling, a cut wire, wind damage, etc) or if there are any additions to the homes exterior.
